Blocking a Website Website block is a procedure that comes in handy in numerous given situations. It’s a way to assure computer safety, child protection or deal with decrease in productivity for big companies that have too many employees to be able to supervise all. Ideally, in the cases of big companies, schools or other institutions, the website block should be left to the professionals, or to special programs that can block websites on an entire network. For home-use or small companies however, it comes in handy to know how to block certain websites in a few simple steps. If given the chance, employees will take frequent breaks to check their social network accounts or simply surf the web when it seems like there’s downtime in the office. it’s impossible to monitor employees at all time to assure they are not sneaking in an extra break or two. The websites employees might access can also be harmful to the computer, resulting in malware infiltrating the system. The best option is to simply website block offensive websites and those type of social network websites that usually distract the employee’s attention ( such as Facebook, twitter, tumblr etc). How to block them? For those who prefer to do the procedure themselves as there’s only a small number of computers in use in the office, depending on the browser you use, the procedure can be slightly different: I.E.: Internet explorer is still the most widely used web browser so we will start with it. You can block websites from the Tools menu, selecting Options and then Content Tab. There is a Content Advisor section that needs to have the “Enable” option activated. Once this is done, on the “Approved Sites” tab the address of the offensive website can be typed and have the option “NEVER” selected to restrict the chosen website. To save this settings, click APPLY and then OK. Firefox: Another popular choice of web browser, Firefox doesn't come with a build in Content Advisor type utility but has website block add-on that can be downloaded named BlockSite. Chrome: Similarly to Firefox, Chrome doesn't have a built in option for website block but has the option to download add-ons for this purpose from the Chrome Store. Alternatively, you can use specialized software to block websites or filter them on networks/multiple computers.
