After blowing out the Chicago Bulls on opening night, many expected the Miami Heat to do a quick job on the Philadelphia 76ers, a team pegged by bookmakers online to struggle for winning 16 games this season. From there, the two teams exchange baskets but by the end of the period, the 76ers were still ahead by 19 points with the score of 33-14. In the second quarter, the Heat made up for their disappointing performance from the previous period as they upped their defense to force the 76sers into missed shots and turnovers. The Heat also hit shots at a higher percentage that allowed to catch up quickly that by halftime, they were only down by 2 points with the score of 51-49 in favor of the 76ers. At the start of the third quarter, the Heat continued where they left off before the break. They made several small runs and almost shot two baskets for every shot the 76ers made. They took the lead at the the 8:33 mark and by the end of the third quarter, the Heat was already ahead by 9 points with the score of 94-85. Perhaps playing catch-up for the previous periods took so much from the Heat team that was playing the second-game in a row. Regardless, the fourth quarter saw the 76ers getting back into the game as the Heat missed several shots in a row. The 76ers got back to running in the last period which allowed them to stay close with the Heat. When the Heat offense stagnated in around the 2 minute mark of the game, the 76ers was finally able to catch up and take a 1-point lead with the score of 109-108. Both teams weren't able to score until there was only 27.8 seconds of the game, as 76ers rookie Michael Carter-Williams hit one of his two free throws that increased the 76ers lead to 2 points. Another two foul shots by Evan Turner increased the lead to 4. The Heat was able to score one last time to get the lead back to 2, but Carter-Williams who was intentionally fouled was able to seal the win by making both free throws to extend the lead back to 4.
