The game between the Heat and the Clippers has been brewing a lot of hype for quite some time. Many were excited how to find out how the retooled Clippers roster that is now being guided by a championship coach in Doc Rivers will match up with the defending champions Miami Heat. The game was competitive in the first three periods until the Heat started to play tighter defense and executed better on offense that exposed openings in the fourth quarter that allowed them to come up with several key plays that allowed them to take over the game, ending it with the final score of 102-97. Dwyane Wade was phenomenal for the Heat as he scored 20 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter. His production somewhat offsets the relatively quiet game for LeBron James who was reported as to be suffering from a back issue. A big reason for Wade's big night was the fact that the Clippers had JJ Reddick guarding him. Although Reddick's effort on defense is always commendable, there was just no way he was going to match up well with Wade. The Heat also did a wonderful job on containing Chris Paul who has been playing great so far this season. Heat's Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole were both great in taking the Paul out of the sets that the Clippers were running. With their star point guard being effectively taken out of plays, the Clippers offense became discombobulated and resulted to less-than-ideal shots being taken and some significant amount of turnovers. This is a big issue for the Clippers going forward as other teams are undoubtedly going to use the tactics that the Heat employed in this game. The coaching staff of the team will have to figure out a way to come up with an offense that doesn't rely so much on their point guard. The Heat, on the other hand, despite not playing well from start to finish showed once again how well they can adjust even against the most talented opponents. This ability has been a key for their 2 consecutive championships, and they are going to need more of it this year as other NBA teams has gotten more talented.
