Tips and Tricks for Landscapers

Gardening

With the cold weather leaving, you are probably looking at your yard and dreading the work that is about to commence. However, with companies who specialize in residential lawn care in Marietta and the following tips, you’ll be ready to jump in and get your hands dirty.

  1. Be sure to plant at the right time. Each plant, flower, and fruit tree has a specific time that they should be planted in order to thrive. This will depend a lot on the weather in your area. However, no matter what, it’s important to wait until the ground thaws to plant anything. Otherwise, the roots of your plants won’t be able to grow as they should.
  2. Prune off old branches from bushes and trees. In the springtime, examine the branches on all of your shrubs and trees. If you see any that appear diseased or dead, be sure to trim them. For some trees, it’s a good idea to prune them every so often to help them grow and thrive.
  3. Clear out any old plants in your garden. All too often, the frost sets in before you have the chance to clear out last year’s plants. Then they become buried under a foot of snow and you forget about them altogether. However, now is the time to pull out those old dry plants and make way for the new ones.
  4. Test your sprinklers before the season starts. Make sure that all of your sprinkler heads and pipes are working correctly before the scorching sun sets in. Then, you never run the risk of your grass and plants dying from lack of water.
  5. Change the level of your mower’s blade. Most lawn mowers have an adjustable blade. In the spring months, you’ll want to keep it on the highest setting. This will keep your grass longer while still trimming off any dead ends. Then, as the summer begins to set in, you can lower the blade. This will keep your grass short and allow you to go longer between mowing sessions.
  6. Aerate your lawn. Aerating your lawn punches holes a few inches deep into the surface of your grass. This gives light, nutrients, and water the opportunity to soak into the roots better.
  7. Spread fertilizer a few times a year. Depending on the season, grab a fertilizer to best help your lawn to grow. It’s best to do it in spring and fall.
  8. Set a watering schedule. Some cities might set a limit as to how many times a week you can turn on your irrigation system. Whenever you can water, make sure that you do it during the evening or early in the morning. Otherwise, the water that you use will be evaporated by the hot sun.
  9. Hire a professional to take over. Yard work probably isn’t something you look forward to doing. For that reason, there are plenty of professional maintenance companies ready and willing to get your yard looking beautiful. From weeding to mowing, these experts can handle whatever amount of yard work you would like them to. There’s no reason to dread your yard work when you can hire it out and end up with the most gorgeous yard on the block.

From hiring a company who specializes in residential lawn care in Marietta to pulling the weeds yourself, it doesn’t matter how you get the work done as long as it gets done. Each yard has very specific needs and it’s important to know what those are. Whether you have a bed full of flowers or cacti, follow these guidelines to ensure that your yard looks great this year.
