As I watched the 13 minutes from the impeachment trial opening, I became profoundly ashamed. Many of the insurgent's parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and ancestors fought for...(?) this country(?), our Constitution(?), a way of life that has been blissfully dead for 200 years? Indeed some of those insurgents where or had been in the military or police forces fighting for...? I'm not so sure anymore. If that is the equal so many of us have fought and died for, for so many decades and centuries, then it's time to revisit our truths, our democracy, our republic. I don't want to be equal to any of them, because they are not the patriotic Americans people have died for over so many generations. They aren't the Americans striving to build a more perfect union. In fact, they seem to be motivated to tear down the progress we have made and replace it with...? Replace it with self loathing and the search for someone, anyone, who they can try to make themselves be a little better than. Shame? Yes, but more than that, there is a sadness so deep in side like I never knew existed. That sadness not for me or them, but for our country. I trust it will never go away, because we should never forget the day that it wasn't enough to beat, shoot, and lynch minorities; the day "they" turn against each other and "their," our country to substitute it with, what? Open fear. The fear of not being good enough. Good enough for what? Shame and sadness.
