Scientists have only recently discovered that inflammation is at the root of most illnesses. Even cancer. They do say that a strong immune system has been proven to be beneficial for reducing the risk of all forms of cancer. If you care to read on, I will endeavour to tell you what foods are good at reducing inflammation. Foods that are rich in the Omega 3 fatty acids are great for reducing inflammation. Indeed, Omega 3 fatty acids by their very nature have very good anti-inflammatory properties. So any foods that contain Omega 3 fats are good for reducing inflammation. That is most fish like Hoki, Trout, Salmon, Sardines, Mackerel, in fact any oily fish that comes from deep, cold water. Seafood such as oysters, scallops and the green lipped mussel are well known for their anti-inflammatory properties. The Maoris of New Zealand are well known for the fact that they do not suffer from joint aches and pains. The scientists put this down to the seafood that makes up the majority of their diet. In particular the green lipped mussel which is used to relieve the pain associated with arthritic diseases. The following anti-oxidants are also good at reducing inflammation. All citrus fruits, spinach, broccoli sweet potatoes, (sweet potatoes are an important part of the Maoris diet.) cranberries, raspberries, blueberries and last but not least Kale. I know an old fellow who is a gardener who grows Kale most of the year. He steeps the Kale in water and makes a drink that he takes everyday. He has done this all of his life, and never had a day of illness in his life. He swears by it’s curative powers and says that if you take Kale every day, you will not suffer from macular degeneration of your eyes. This old boy is over eighty, and still working. They say green tea is a good anti-oxidant. But there is a coffee that has just been put on the market which is a combination of roasted beans and green beans. This coffee beats the tea as an anti-oxidant hands down. They say that it contains 70% more anti-oxidants than green tea. As I am a coffee addict, I think I will stick to the coffee.
