First, I will tell those among you who do not know what krill oil is, exactly what they are. Krill are small crustaceans that resemble shrimp, however they are only 1cm to 5cm long. They are found in most oceans of the world and are at the bottom of the food chain. They are a major part of the whales diet and other creatures higher up in the food chain. The first beef I have about this oil is the fact that the manufacturers say they are so small that they do not have any contamination present in them. This thinking is flawed, as they do have contaminants in them. For starters they contain organochlorine pesticides which the pass onto creatures higher up in the food chain. Secondly, if the manufacturers are catching the krill in the North Atlantic, the North Atlantic is the most polluted ocean in the world, and there would be no creature that lives in it, that is not contaminated with some toxin or PCB. These are dangerous toxins and heavy metals, and the PCBs alone are known to cause cancer. Unfortunately the manufacturers do not purify their oil. Can you really afford to take these peoples word that you will not be ingesting toxins and heavy metals. It is also unfortunate that they tell pregnant women that their oil is safe for them to consume, they are putting the women and their foetuses at risk. Each bottle of krill oil capsules contains 30,000mg of krill oil and only 2,700mg of DHA. While the Omega 3 DHA/ esters from the company that I buy my oil from contains 60,000mg of concentrated molecularly distilled fish oil esters, and contains 15,000mg of DHA. To obtain the same amount of DHA, you would have to pay 8 times as much. So while the sales pitch for krill oil is well done, it does not stack up against a quality molecularly distilled and concentrated fish oil ester.
