A cheap sustainable healthy fish would have to be Hoki. This fish is used in conjunction with Tuna to make an oil that has double the anti-inflammatory properties of other highly concentrated oils. It is sustainable because the New Zealand government only allow a certain amount to be caught each year. This very sustainability means there is only so much oil available from this fish. The CEO of the company that makes this oil with double the anti-inflammatory properties was saying just the other day, that soon he would only be able to supply existing customers with this oil. While this is good news for existing customers, it really is bad news for people who have yet to buy this oil. This fish is native to the Southern Ocean and is highly sought after as a good tasting fish. While Hoki is a cheap sustainable healthy fish, other good healthy fish are sardines, trout, salmon and mackerel. In fact any oily fish that lives in deep, cold water. Fish that live in these waters usually eat plankton which are rich in the essential fatty acids, or as you might know them Omega 3 fats. This makes the fish rich in the Omega 3 fatty acids. There is not that much cheap sustainable healthy fish around. The only sustainable fish are those that are protected by governments that have introduced quotas for their fisheries. The only way these quotas work, is when the governments police their fisheries. You would be surprised just how many governments do not monitor their fisheries. But you must remember to only buy oil that has been through the process called molecular distillation to remove the impurities such as lead and mercury. And the more dangerous PCBs. These PCBs have been known to cause cancer. Once the oil has been through this process, the remaining oil will be as pure as the driven snow. Fish from the waters off the coast of Alaska, and the waters off the coast of Norway have relatively clean fish. These two plus the Southern Ocean off the coast of New Zealand, have the most pristine waters in the world. Even then, the oil from fish caught in these waters still needs to be molecularly distilled to remove any impurities.
