We have to worry about keeping young skin clean and free of pimples. We also have to try to fight the aging process every step of the way or we will end up with wrinkles, dryness and roughness or the dreaded age spots. Other signs of aging that people often see are bags and dark circles under their eyes. Some people have all of these symptoms. Here are a few things you can do to help prevent them. First, you need to know that most of the visible signs of aging can be traced to excessive exposure to sunlight. UV radiation causes increased free radical damage, otherwise known as oxidation. A younger person has enough antioxidants in their skin’s layers to prevent the damage…for a while. If however, the damage continues, there will be a problem. Antioxidant levels will be depleted and that leads to premature aging. You have probably been told that the use of sunscreen is recommended to prevent skin cancer and protect against premature aging. There is no proof that sunscreens prevent aging or cancer. In fact, some of the chemical sunscreens have been shown to cause the same kind of DNA damage caused by exposure to UV radiation. One of the keys for keeping young skin is to simply avoid over-exposure. The only thing a sunscreen has been proven to do is to protect against burning and then only for a specific period of time. Higher SPF ratings do not actually mean additional protection. They mean you can spend more time in the sun without burning. The FDA currently recommends wearing a hat, staying in the shade and avoiding exposure when the sun’s rays are strongest. That’s when your shadow is shortest; late morning, noon time and early afternoon. Another key for keeping young skin, according to research, is to include a lot of antioxidants in your diet. Those found in green tea have been shown to provide some benefits against UV damage. You can also use antioxidant-rich skincare creams. They are becoming increasingly popular. Some are, of course, more effective than others. Nano-particles of the antioxidant coenzyme Q10 should be particularly effective. They have actually been shown to reverse sun damage. Never underestimate the value of a good moisturizer for keeping young skin. Just be careful about the brand that you choose. Some of the lotions on the market could actually cause a prematurely aged appearance. Learning which ingredients to avoid is the next step.
