You can use these young skin tips, regardless of your age. They are all about protecting your skin’s health, which will also protect your appearance. Your skin’s health can be damaged by overexposure to sunlight, exposure to cigarette smoke or air pollution and by the allergens, toxins and irritants commonly found in cosmetics and other skincare products. In order to protect against overexposure to sunlight, the safest and most effective choices are to stay in the shade, wear protective clothing and avoid being outside when your shadow is shortest. That’s when the sun’s rays are strongest. If you must be in direct sunlight for more than a few minutes, use a zinc oxide sun block, especially on your face. Other sunscreens are less effective and evidence indicates they may increase your risk of certain kinds of skin cancer. Sunlight and cigarette smoke cause increased production and activity of free radicals, which can eventually damage the skin’s cellular DNA strands. The damage can cause wrinkles or cancer. There is not a whole lot we can do to avoid outdoor air pollution, but you can do something about indoor air pollution. You can use air filters and avoid using toxins in the house. You can also install a water purifier on your showerhead. That’s one of my favorite young skin tips. No matter your age, you should not be constantly exposed to chlorine and other chemicals found in publicly treated water supplies. At the least, chlorine causes excessive dryness and excessively dry skin is more likely to wrinkle. At the worst chloroform gas, a known carcinogen may accumulate inside your shower stall and in your house whenever you turn on the hot water for a shower. A good showerhead filter protects you in many ways. Another of my favorite young skin tips is to use only the safest and most natural skincare products. Whether you are buying body wash or mascara, find out what the ingredients are. Avoid the ones that are known allergens, toxins and irritants. If it contains artificial preservatives and fragrances, then it contains allergens, toxins and irritants. The risk of exposure to those kinds of substances is chronic inflammation within the skin’s layers. Inflammatory molecules can eventually damage and degrade the skin’s collagen fibers, causing sagging. Chronic inflammation is another of the causes of cellular aging. Last, but not least of my favorite young skin tips is to use nourishing anti-aging creams and body lotions. It is never too early or too late to invest in them.
