Six Foods that Encourage Relaxation and Relieve Anxiety

Health,Food & Beverages
We tend to talk about the most effective foods for losing weight, those that offer a lift as we exercise, and those that repair and replenish the muscles when they break down. All are essential for superior disease prevention, as in each one of these situations the right diet plan will make for healthier organs and stronger connective tissue along with muscles. But there is one more area that food may also help the overall physical condition: working any foods that allow us to relax into our food regimen.

When we talk about relaxation foods, we could mistakenly imagine that a food has a calming consequence as it actually has the opposite effect. We talk of having an alcoholic beverage to relax, when in fact it stimulates our body to generate those same hormones we yield when under stress. Others, like caffeine in coffee or caffeinated soda, stimulate the nervous system. Types of foods excessive in sugar cause insulin spikes leading to low energy, and salty food leads to fluid retention, resulting in heart and blood pressure issues. All should be avoided while we try to wind down and relax.

There are particular foods that go into the food-relaxing category:

1. Oatmeal. Oats are rich in Vitamin B6 and melatonin. The former is the anti-stress vitamin and the latter is a natural hormone that helps promote sleep. Only be sure that it is not loaded with sugar or extra unhealthy additions.

2. Green tea. It has a little caffeine, although not on the degrees of coffee, however it more than compensates with an amino acid called L-theanine, a natural stress-reliever. This may act like a natural mood enhancer by stimulating the making of alpha brain waves, which we emit once we are in a more relaxed condition. Additionally, green tea is thought to reduce high blood pressure.

3. Bananas. Individuals who do plenty of weight training understand benefits of bananas because of the high levels of magnesium and potassium. These nutrients are natural muscle relaxers, and before our entire body can relax we must make sure our muscles unwind.

4. Celery. Even in early history celery was known as an antidote to stress, a lot of people don't consider grabbing a celery stock to calm their nerves. But there is a definite correlation with celery's ability to decrease hypertension and relaxation, and eating celery often is going to lower high blood pressure.

5. Salmon as well as other cold-water fish. It really is all about omega-3 fats, and that has so many health benefits. One more will be to boost levels of serotonin as it reduces the production of cortisol and adrenaline, acknowledged in promoting anxiety.

6. Milk. People have a warm glass of milk prior to bedtime as it will have tryptophan, and when it converts to serotonin it helps us sleep. Low-fat milk is significantly better on the whole, and its calcium and vitamin D have been believed to also lessen depression and anxiety.

These are a few foods that will put you into a certain state of mind. It's not that a person wants to go through life 24/7 deep in a condition of continuous bliss, but there are occasions when we should definitely wind down and relax. By doing it through a nutritious diet instead of popping pills is positively a better approach to go.

Being able to have control over how we feel is always a good thing, and if we can use healthy foods in our meal planning to regulate our moods, that will help us live a happier and healthier life.
