You cannot adopt a better diet if you do not have the proper knowledge about nutrition. Once you're aware of the foods and ingredients that you should avoid, and the proper nutritious alternatives, you'll be on the road to fitness and health. This article will give you several tips on where to start.

Eating raw foods is healthier when compared to other ways of preparing foods. Fresh and raw foods lock in the nutrients so that they are not cooked away before the meal.

Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits each day. The USDA recommends that you eat at least 9 to 13 different servings of vegetables and fruits each day. That probably sounds like more than it actually is. A glass of orange juice at breakfast counts as a serving of fruit. Some spaghetti sauce at dinner counts as a vegetable.

Get your protein from a variety of sources. There are lots of other foods you can eat that contain protein. Try consuming nuts, beans, soy, tofu, fish, and more. All of these are useful enough so that you can include them in other dishes. Eat lots of protein-rich foods so that you don't get bored and stick with your diet.

When choosing nuts to for cooking, pick almonds. Almonds are a triple-threat because they can lower your cholesterol, fortify your blood cells and fuel your body with protein. They are also cheaper than other nut varieties.

A great thing to do when you are trying to get healthier is to prepare your own meals and snacks for school or work. When you pack your meals, you don't need to eat out or eat junk food. It only takes 10 minutes or so to get a few meals prepared.

Try some foods with Vitamin B6 to bring depression down naturally. Pyridoxine, also known as vitamin B6, supports your mental health because it can affect serotonin levels in the body. Looking for foods that are rich in B6? Stock up on lean chicken breast, asparagus and wheat germ. It's especially crucial that you consume foods with enough B6 during the winter months, which is when depression is even more prevalent.

You don't need to be on a diet to maintain proper nutrition. Good nutrition is all about giving the body the basic fuel it needs to survive and thrive, including minerals, water, and vitamins. Everyone's body is different. Therefore, each person requires a different plan when it comes to nutrition. Heed what you've learned here, and start practicing great nutritional habits now.
