Professional photographers should be skilled at capturing images using the correct white balance settings during shooting. This is a fundamental skill and yet, there are still many photographers who rely on post-production corrections because they ended up with yellow photos or photos that were over-exposed. Many will shoot in RAW format and then correct images in post production. Although this is a skill in itself, it is better that a photographer be able to adjust white balance settings manually whilst shooting rather than relying on post production. In photography, shooting with the correct white balance is critical to obtaining images with colors that are rich and as accurate as possible. A skilled photographer will be able to make adjustments to compensate for conditions that will affect the quality of images e. G. A cloudy day, candlelight, low light or shade. An incorrect white balance can create unsightly blue or yellow photos. A photographer should understand colour temperatures and how to measure the quality and intensity of a light source. Different light scenarios produce different intensities of colour. A higher colour temperature such as a sunny sky has more blue light and a lower colour temperature such as candlelight has a more red light. These different colour temperatures are measured in degree Kelvin. A highly skilled photographer knows how to use the Kelvin settings on a camera. It is easy for a photographer to shoot their photographs using automatic settings on their camera and then convert their images to black and white or use image correction software to fix their errors.
