Shooting targets refer to many types of objects used as a target to practice the accuracy of the aim of a gun. Targets can be made of rubber, steel, paper or wood, depending on the type of gun and the range of shooting it is to be used for. There are also electronic scoring systems which can provide accurate and precise information about the shot. The shooting targets can broadly be classified in to the following major categories Cardboard Targets Due to being cheap and light weight, the cardboard targets are most widely used. The target normally consists of a silhouette made of cardboard with the maximum score for hitting the chest and head and lesser for limbs. A simple cardboard sheet can be cut into the shape of a target. Bullets easily pass through them so care must be taken that no one stands behind the target when shooting is under progress. Steel Shooting Targets As the name implies the target is made of steel. They can be used for both long and short range firings. Steel targets are one of the best shooting targets. Upon close inspection of the target you can know the angle at which the bullet hit the target which can give a rough idea of the direction the bullet came from. Some of the targets have a cloth screen at the back which can trap the bullets and they can then be sold out at good rates as the metal is quite costly. Steel targets must be used with the caution that if the bullet hits the target at an angle lesser that 45 degrees it may be diverted instead of passing through and can be dangerous. Auto Reset Targets If you want to take the target shooting to the next level, it can be done with the auto reset targets. The targets are spring loaded. Once moved by the bullet they come back to the original state where they can be shot again and again. These targets are easily portable and perfectly versatile for all sorts of shootings like guns pistols and all other weapons. Shooting Gallery Targets Shooting gallery targets are generally decorated and made into characters and used for recreational shootings rather than target practice. They are found in a number of shapes like animals and human silhouettes. Steel Sniper Targets Snipers usually use bullets of longer range and larger caliber. Paper and cardboard targets are okay to use with short range guns, but as the range of bullet and the shooting distance increases it becomes difficult to assess where did the bullet hit. The steel targets give a clear point of hitting of the bullets so they are the most suitable to be used with the sniper rifles. Self-Healing Targets These types of targets are made up of advanced materials. They are also known as impact sealing targets. The target reseals itself after the bullet passes through it. These type of targets have longer lives and can handle thousands of rounds. I hope you enjoyed learning about the different kinds of targets and how you can use them to improve your shooting skills and for more information come over to www.bluegrasshobbies.com and check out the targets or drop me a line with questions or suggestions.
