Three Tips for Installing New Cabinets in Your Kitchen

Home Improvement,Construction,Interior Design
One of the easiest ways to give your kitchen a facelift is to consider the installation of new kitchen cabinets. A new set of cabinets opens up all sorts of possibilities in terms of making the space more functional and visually appealing. As you spend time looking at different cabinet designs, it helps if you keep a few basic tips in mind.

Think About Going with Glass Doors

While you could always choose new cabinetry that is more or less the same design as your old cabinets, what's the fun in that? Rather than more of the same old thing, why not branch out a bit? A slightly different look could make the kitchen pop in ways that it never did before.

For example, if you've not considered the possibility of kitchen cabinets with glass doors, take the time to check out a few designs. The glass can be clear, but you could also opt for frosted panes if you would prefer that people not see what is going on inside those cabinets. For a compromise, you could also consider glass doors that are etched with some sort of design.

Don't overlook the possibility of choosing a stained glass design for those cabinet doors. This approach allows you to pull in some additional colors to the space without making a lot of changes. In fact, the right colors worked into the glass pattern will ensure that some of the minor colors used elsewhere in the kitchen will suddenly stand out more, giving the space a completely different look.

All the Way to the Ceiling?

Your old kitchen cabinets stopped short of the ceiling. While that did leave you some space to do a little decorating, the fact is you could stand with a little more storage space. As you consider different designs for new cabinets, think about designs that will go all the way to the ceiling. Assuming the interior of the cabinetry is structured properly, you'll love having that extra space for canned goods, dishes, and various appliances you only use now and then.

If your current cabinets go all the way to the ceiling and there is a desire for some display space, focus your search on kitchen cabinets that do allow a little space for displaying items on top. You'll be surprised how much character can be added by displaying some silk greenery, some decorative cookbooks, and maybe some vintage kitchen items along the tops of the cabinetry.

Adjustable Shelving

Fixed shelving in kitchen cabinets is okay, but think how much better it would be if you could move those shelves to suit your current needs. When you order the new kitchen cabinets, ask about options for shelves that you can move up and down at will. Once the cabinets are installed and you have the ability to arrange the actual shelves any way you like, the amount of additional space available will be surprising. The best part about shelves you adjust is that you no longer have to figure out how to stack items in order to get everything in the cabinet. Who likes the idea of having to take out several pieces just to get to that one platter you want to use tonight? By having enough shelves on hand to lower and raise them as you buy new dishes or need to rearrange the area where you keep canned goods, it will be much easier to set things up so that everything can be conveniently reached.
