"To get this dignity while still racing, it sort of makes me feel aged, " quipped Harvick. "It's a fairly cool deal for me. You know how considerably this town and racetrack (Mesa Marin) supported my career. "So I took a chance to go work for Connie and Wayne Spears for a mechanic (on their own race team), hoping I'd get an opportunity to drive. " He started driving in the midst of the 1997 season together with in 1998 he raced full-time in both West and truck selection, criss-crossing the country to help compete in 52 races. It repaid with five wins and a championship in the West Series and a lot of overall experience. By then Harvick was attracting the attention from several people in NASCAR and in 1999 he was when driving in a truck run by former Cleveland Cavaliers person Brad Daugherty. Harvick finished second within a race at Mesa Marin with April 10, 1999, in addition to a week later was neared by Richard Childress with Martinsville, Va.
