Hijab and Fashion Do Go Together in Harmony

Fashion & Cosmetics,Islam,Sexuality
Hijab is an arabic word which literally implies 'cover' or 'partition'. In the case of fashion, it is the veil or headscarf that all muslimah (a word for girl or woman who submit to Islam) are compelled to dress in as a sign of obedience to god. People around the world believe that wearing hijab can be restricting, repudiating the rights for women to look as fashionable as they wish. In fact, even muslimahs themselves think so too. This is not exactly true however as fairly recently as an Islamic dressmaker, Hana Tajima, outlined a few tips on how muslimah can still do fashion with their hijab as well as obeying to the ruling of Islam.

The first thing is to put on a constrasting headscarf from your clothes. This is the general rule in fashion and dressing up, and it actually works similarly for headscarves too. Using a headscarf in the similar tone with your dresses can make you look monotonous and depressing. However, with a little contrasting hue, one can make her facial part looks a lot more attractive and eye-catching, which is one of the two part of a female's body which a muslimah is allowed to disclose. It's best not to wear headscarf with vivid shade as muslimahs are prohibited overdressed with the purpose to lure attention. Pastels and tender colors are preferred.

One other guideline is, when you have worn a plain outfit, wear it with a flowery scarf. It also works the other way around. A flowery headscarf can make a standout appearance, and tend to give a girl or woman some kind of cheerful and welcoming look. This is particularly well suited for workers in offices as it can lift up the mood of the hectic working environment in the office. You will never believe how much emotions can be affected by just what the eyes can see.

And the last guideline is, to choose a headscarf style that matches your face shape. There are many sort of headscarves to choose from. I am unable to list out each type there is, but some type works really well with only certain face shape. One example, women with oval or egg-like facial shape looks amazingly wonderful with 'pashminas' (a type of headscarf which is pinned, not tied). Pashmina is a type of headscarf that Hana Tajima herself often wear. For the people with a round face, regular 'wardina' (a type of headscarf named after the creator of style, Wardina) headscarves are more convenient.

Well, that is pretty much a handful of guidelines on how to put on hijab, unquestionably there are other guidelines that you may implement and be inventive with. Just keep in mind that the sole purpose of wearing hijab is always to show obedience to the Almighty. So long as this reason is not broken, there are definitely still area for advancement in the wonderful world of Islamic fashion.

For more information on Islamic fashion, make sure you check out Hana Tajima, a fashion designer who modernized the hijab, while still faithfully adhering to the ruling of Islam. She also write her own blog and you can check it out at stylecovered.com .
