There could be multiple reasons for a thermostat becoming dysfunctional. An exhausted battery, a flipped or broken breaker, a burnt out or frayed wiring or external factors like blocked air filters or leaky ductwork could be some of the reasons for this device to malfunction. There could be other reasons also behind the malfunctioning of this device. This might give rise to many questions that are asked to electrical experts online. This article provides answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about such problems: How do I change the battery of my Lux 1500 thermostat? A thermostat has two parts, namely a face and sub-base. You have to pull the face and release the base from the sub-base. Then the face latch has to be located at the bottom of the device where you will find a small indentation. Push the latch and slowly full the face towards you. Two AA size batteries will be found. You have to change those within a minute so as to keep the memory intact. I have a Honeywell thermostat at the back of my wood burning stove. The power card has detached. Where do I fit the white and black wires? If the thermostat is 120v the black wire has to be connected to the line side of the T- stat and the white wire has to be connected to the white from the unit. My 240 volt attic ventilation fan is run by a double pole breaker. Can a single pole thermostat be connected to it? Though it might be possible, using a 2 pole Thermostat would probably be a better option. A new thermostat is to be installed and there are four wires (blue, green, white and red) coming from the wall. How should the wires be connected? The usual wiring system should be followed to connect them: Red to R with jumper to RC for POWER, White to W for HEAT, Green to G for FAN and Yellow to Y for COOL. In your case the Blue might be a Y. I want to relocate a thermostat. The wall has to be fished from an unfinished basement to get a wire up it to the thermostat. How should this be done? You have to make a hole in the wall where the thermostat will be installed. The hole should not be larger than the thermostat but of optimum size to snake out the fish tape. Then the extension of this wall in the basement has to be found and a hole should be created in it from the basement up. The hole should be on the wall only. The floor should have no hole. If you find other outlets on the same wall which have wires running through it from the basement, use those as reference for the job. Once the hole is created in the basement the fishing tape has to be inserted into it. At last the tape has to be pushed through and pulled out of the hole in the wall upstairs. I have a thermostat in my spa. How should I test it to know if it’s working properly? A meter has to be used to check the continuity. When the thermostat is turned above temperature it should display a reading. If it does it means it is working properly. Faulty wiring sometimes causes a thermostat to malfunction. A multimeter has to be used to check the thermostat’s transformer. There could be other complicated problems for the thermostat for which you should ask an electrician to solve the issue.
