A Ward in Law is when an individual is kept under the protection and care of a legal guardian. The courts of the United States may also obtain the responsibility of a child sometimes. Such arrangements are called the Ward of Court or Ward of State. Ward of state can have legal implications and give rise to questions about responsibilities and rights. What does one mean by Ward of State? Ward of state may refer to a child that is in the custody of a public welfare agency. Some states may use this term instead of Ward of Court. If this is the case, the executor of the estate may check with the local court about the basic probate process and submit a written request. How does one lose parental rights and how does a child become a ward of the state in California? If one does not appear at a scheduled court hearing or misses an arrangement of court he/she may lose the parental rights. At such a point, the child may become a ward of the state. In some cases, if the child seems to be out of control and cannot be changed, then the court may decide that it is in the best interest of the child that it becomes a ward of the state. Becoming a ward of the state can be a sensitive subject. There may be many laws about this issue. The reasons why a person or a child is made a ward of state may vary.
