Erik Buell Racing is in a David-versus-Goliath battle competing in World Superbike. We take a look at the team’s inner workings at its base in Verdello, Italy Perched atop a fortified hill lies Bergamo’s old town. During the Renaissance, when it marked the westernmost boundary of the Venetian Republic, the citadel hosted one of the biggest fairs in Europe. The ensuing prosperity bestowed upon Bergamo a renowned architectural and artistic heritage and gradually cemented it as one of the strategic crossroads in Northern Italy, which it still is. Abiding – whether consciously or not – by this tradition, Erik Buell Racing selected Verdello, just outside the city to kickstart its own renaissance and build its World Superbike workshop. “Italy is hub,” Team Manager Giulio Bardi explained concisely. “It offers a vast pool of technicians and suppliers. We chose this zone because it’s central and strategic. The nearest airport is only 8 miles away; Milano (about 30 miles away) has efficient customs, so materials and components can be shipped quickly. Also, Bologna (where many suppliers and independent contractors are based) is only a couple of hours away. Finally, Bergamo is a pleasant place, especially for our American mechanics, which is a plus.” Team EBR’s European stronghold is only a few months old but gradually turning into a full-fledged workshop. The large, two-floor open space was recently fitted with a test bench and all the necessary tools to work on the EBR 1190RX twin-cylinder engines. However, the American manufacturer is merely finishing to set up the chess board in its quest to expand both agonistically and commercially –well beyond the United States. - Luca Semprini EBR Motorcycles to expand beyond United States will be great for the motorcycle industry. For every ride, always consider safety. Torc Helmets are a great match for your EBR motorcycle.
