If you’re human, you sometimes procrastinate. You may even be doing it right now. (Just finish reading this article first, since you’re already here ;.) It’s not a big deal if you do it every now and then. But it becomes a problem when for example: It starts draining your energy; It makes you feel lousy about yourself; You don’t deliver on things you promised to do, or You let things slide for so long, that it leads to all kinds of problems (unpaid bills, unhappy clients, etc.) Sometimes all you need to get started (or finish what you started), is to kick yourself in the butt. Not always, though, depending on WHY you’re procrastinating in the first place. These are 3 common reasons people procrastinate (with, of course, a solution for each): Reason #1: Fear You either fear the action itself and/or the result that might come of it. Public speaking, for example, is something a lot of people fear. But you can also fear whatever you think may happen as a result of you taking that action. Maybe people will criticize you. Or think you’re stupid. Maybe no one will sign up for your workshop or program. Or maybe they will! Solution: Get to the bottom of your fear(s). What do you fear? Does this REALLY scare you? Sometimes looking your fear in the face is enough to transform it. Then, ask yourself WHY you want to take this action in the first place. Why does it matter to you? Why is it important? Connect to the WHY beneath the fear. This will help you take action despite feeling fearful. Reason #2: Lack of Information/Knowledge You know what you have to do, but you don’t know how to do it. Or where to start. Solution: What information do you need? What don’t you know? Where can you get this information? Who can help? Start there. Once you know what to do, you can do it. Reason #3: Lack of Clarity Deep down, you’re not sure if this is something you REALLY want. Maybe you’re trying to achieve a goal that no longer matters to you. Sometimes you hang onto a goal or a dream because it once mattered to you. But things change. YOU change. What meant the world to you last year, may mean nothing to you now. If this is the case, it makes perfect sense that you’re just not getting into action mode. There’s no drive, motivation or love to get you going. Solution: Do you still want this? Is it EXACTLY what you want, and is it what you REALLY want? If not, let it go. Focus on something you DO love and want instead. Get fired up again, and go for it! This week’s transformational action: Are you procrastinating? Use the tips in this article to find out WHY you’re procrastinating, and HOW you can solve it. The only thing left to do then, is take ACTION icon smile Why You’re (still) Procrastinating Bonus tip: Sometimes it may FEEL like you are procrastinating, when actually, you are not. This can happen when: The idea you have needs to evolve and grow inside you, and it’s just not ready yet (everything takes as long as it takes, and you can’t always control that); It’s not the right time; It’s not the right action. How do you know if this is the case? Easy: just ask your intuition. It will tell you exactly what’s going on, and what your best next action is.
