There are different types of violin strings to enhance the tone and volume of it. Some are very expensive but some are cheap violin strings. In this article you are going to get aware of the difference between a gut string and a synthetic core string. Synthetic core strings were invented in 1970’s when thomastik-Infled began the production of revolutionary dominants made from nylon perlon. Since then using high-tech nylons and composite materials, manufactures have created many new brands of synthetic strings. They have much more stable pitch and have the warm sound qualities. On the other hand gut violin strings are entirely different. All musical strings were made of pure sheep gut not cat gut. To increase mass lower strings were wrapped with silver wire. Gut strings are not entirely made of gut and have a gut core. Gut strings are popular and known for having a rich and warm sound with many complex overtones. They take longer time to stretch as compare to synthetic and once stretched they are generally stable but it can react to the changing weather and as compare to synthetic core settings, requires more tuning. The quality and power of tones can be changed drastically due to the different string gauges for gut strings. A smaller gauge gut string would have a less carrying power and would have bright sounding. But the thicker one will be more powerful and with a higher string tension.
