You can compare violin strings with car tyres, as they influence the performance of your instrument directly. They must vibrate and adhere well- be very responsive and tough. Similar to car tyres they must work as a whole and must match with each other so that when passing from one string to another no difference should be noted in string tones and tension. Don’t try one make for the D, A and E, another for the G a totally different kind for each string in most cases leads to a mismatch in feel and performance. If you will keep them clean and tidy they will surely last a longer time but on the other hand if you don’t care much about them and leave them to suffer dust, dirt and moisture, they will generally have a short life and need to be changed so often.
