Ever since the movie ‘Fifty Shades Movie’ has been announced, people have been figuratively betting on which actor is going to play which part in this movie venture. Though the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele have been finalised, it is the role of the sultry, older, Mrs. Robinson, which people are looking forward to. If the grapevine is to be believed, this role of an older woman who is also Christian Grey’s ex flame will be played by former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star, Katie Holmes. Katie Holmes, who has been better known as Tom Cruise’s much younger ex-wife and their recent split, is yearning to take up the role as a challenge which is a surprise shift in her career. The common consensus, however, is that the character of Elena Lincoln, who has shades of a ‘Mrs. Robinson’, will not be suitable for the 34-year old actress Katie Holmes. Since E.L. James has penned the character to be in her late 30s or in her early 40s, many feel that Katie’s role in the ’50 Shades of Grey’ movie, will be a mismatch. The character of Elena Lincoln has a profound influence in the life of Christian Grey, since she is not only his ex-lover, but also the woman who was his mother’s friends and developed an Oedipus complex kind of relationship with him. She is one who also introduced him to the world of BDSM. Many Hollywood insiders feel that, Katie Holmes is desperately seeking this role so that she can exploit the range of her acting capabilities. Always known for her girl next door image, Katie is said to be seriously considering this role and has already started preparing herself. And if her frequent trips to the gym are anything to go by, she is finalised for the role of Elena Lincoln, she intends to do complete justice to the look of her character. Though the story centers around the lead characters of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, all other characters have a clearly etched out presence on paper and hopefully will have the same on screen as well. The character Anastasia Steele has been one of the first ones to be finalized and it is to be played by Dakota Johnson, in the ‘50 Shades of Grey’ movie. What starts off as a professional interaction between Ana and Christian slowly takes a turn for the kinky when Grey proposes a BDSM themed physical relationship, bound by non-disclosure statements. Having read the novel and knowing about Elena Lincoln, you might put two and two together and understand that, Christian’s fascination for BDSM stem from his earlier relationship with Elena Lincoln. The ‘50 Shades of Grey’ movie has been eyeing a 2014 release and with the hopeful addition of Katie Holmes to the star cast, will up the star quotient by oodles.
