Guns ‘N’ Roses tickets are now available and can be bought or sold online at StubHub.com. In the late ‘80s, no band was quite as badass as Guns ‘N’ Roses. Axl Rose, Slash and the rest of the band defined themselves as the quintessential rock ‘n’ roll superstars with 1987’s landmark Appetite for Destruction. They followed it up with a "double EP" offering only half an album of new material, followed by the LP Use Your Illusion. The Spaghetti Incident, a covers album, came after that, but it only left them with two LPs of original material in their catalogue. Their third, Chinese Democracy, was begun in the early ‘90s—and promptly became a legendary unfinished project. Millions were spent in recording costs for the record, while tension within the band meant performers came and went through a revolving door (and the band was always wild enough that it had a steady revolving door anyways). In 1999, GNR fans received their first taste of new material when "Oh My God" appeared on the soundtrack to the film End of Days. Other than that, all was quiet. In time Chinese Democracy was forgotten or was considered a punchline. But in the past couple years, progress has emerged. Several new songs have appeared in video games, and a handful of new tracks were leaked by a music blog in mid-2008, prompting an investigation by the F.B.I. It seemed that Chinese Democracy would not simply remain a mythical record. Half-jokingly, the Dr. Pepper company released a statement saying it would give everyone in the country a free can of soda if the album came out. They may now be regretting that statement, as a definitive date has been set for the release of Chinese Democracy. Though it was pushed back already in 2008, it’s set for Nov. 25, when Best Buy will have exclusive rights to sell the album in its stores. The record’s cover art is already rumored to have appeared on Best Buy’s site (a sepia-toned photograph of an old bicycle with a big basket parked on a street. Not the hard-rock image people were expecting). On Oct. 21, a spokesman for Dr. Pepper confirmed to MTV News that they would honor the beverage company’s original request, probably through online coupons. But they want to see an on the record confirmation from GNR that the album is actually coming out first. Fans should be thrilled.
