Spider-Man the Musical tickets are now available and can be bought or sold online at StubHub.com. Marvel’s wise-cracking web-slinger has swung across New York’s cityscape many times, but soon he’ll be swinging indoors on Broadway. The hit film series Spiderman is being adapted for the stage, and Broadway gossip is abuzz about it. Though casting decisions haven’t been made, some important names have been attached. Initially, The Crying Game-director Neil Jordan was set to write the screenplay, but has since dropped off and been replaced with Glen Berger, who has earned recognition for penning plays like Underneath the Lintel and The Wooden Breeks. Set to direct is Julie Taymor, the Tony Award-winning director infamous for her colorful eye and distinctive visual flair. Taymor has become a favorite among those who enjoy fantasy, and like seeing stories lent a significant twist. She earned her Tony for direction of Broadway’s hit The Lion King in the late ‘90s, and has earned plenty of critical praise for post-modern take on Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, shortened for her 1999 film adaptation Titus. Fan of Taymor’s style expect her to bring the same magical aesthetic to her adaptation of Spider-Man the Musical. The few details released about the existing script sound like they’ll lend themselves to her touch quite easily. Besides the expected cast of characters—Peter Parker, Mary Jane, J. Jonah Jameson—there will be some new symbolic characters. Arachne, the mythical woman whose narcissism prompted the Greek gods to turn her into a spider, makes an appearance in the play and meets with Spider-Man. There’s also a "geek chorus"—an obvious play on the traditional "Greek chorus" that narrated a play’s events as they progressed. Judging by the amazing reception that the films received, smashing box office records, Spider-Man the Musical tickets are sure to be snapped up as soon as they go on sale. That’s too bad for Spidey fans that get beat to the punch—but if they hurry, they should be able to secure tickets. This article was written by Andrew Good and sponsored by StubHub.
