Fun Way to Help Others Marathons or other races are a great way to have fun helping others. Whether you’re walking or running, you will get a chance to enjoy yourself and support those in need. The Mississauga Food Bank hopes participants will raise $20,000 at this year’s Mississauga Marathon. By participating in the marathon and fundraising on behalf of the food bank you can help distribute 60,000 meals to hungry individuals, families and seniors in Mississauga. What a great sense of satisfaction! Motivation to Get Active Get the motivation you need to get out there and get fit. The training that leads up to a marathon and the actual day of the event are great exercise. If you’re struggling to get the motivation you need to get healthy, taking part in a marathon could be the kick start you’ve been waiting for. Train with friends, family or co-workers and encourage each other to keep up with your goals. Before you know it you might become a running/walking enthusiast! Build Relationships If you are running as an individual, marathons can be a chance to meet new people who share common interests. Whether you have signed up to help out the same charity or to get fit, interact with the people on your team. It might be the start of a relationship that will last a lifetime. Marathons are also a great team-building exercise. Get your company, sports team or family together and register for one of the race events as a group. Lean on each other for inspiration to reach your fitness and fundraising targets. This is an excellent opportunity to strengthen your relationships outside the home or workplace. Meaningful Promotional Items Often charities will hand out t-shirts or backpacks featuring their logo to running event participants as a way of expressing appreciation for all their hard work. These items are great during the event and after. At the marathon event, organizers will often give away water bottles, fruit or other nourishing snacks to keep up the energy of runners/walkers. Get out there and enjoy these perks! Crowd Pleasing The crowd will love you. As you inch closer to that finish line sporting your charity’s logo, the crowd will cheer and applaud you. This will not only help encourage you to keep going during the event but raise awareness for the charity you are running for. You could wear The Mississauga Food Bank’s logo at the 2013 Mississauga Marathon and help make a difference for the 65,000 clients who rely on them each month for support!
