Choosing a razor can be a difficult decision. The first step in choosing is deciding whether you prefer a dry or wet shave. A dry shave involved using electric razors. However, if you prefer wet shaving, there are still many different choices available to you. The perfect type of razor for you is based largely on what you value most. Safety razors are great for those who prefer a low cost and enjoy convenience as most are disposable. Cartridge razors are generally more expensive, however, the razors are usually better quality and provide a closer shave. Straight razors are the least common today, but are known for giving the best and closest shave. Continue reading to learn more about the history of these razors and what constitutes the best straight razor blades. History Straight razors were the very first razor blades to exist. The first documented razors date back to England in the 1600s. When they began to be manufactured, they were made from steel and had eventually included a handle for easier use. At this point in history, most men did not shave themselves but rather visited a barber when they needed a shave. However, as more and more men began wanting to shave their own faces, the safety razor was developed. Because the straight razor requires quite a bit of skill to get a good shave and avoid injury, few people choose them over safety razors. Choosing a Straight Razor While safety razors require time and instruction to fully master, it can be successfully used. While straight razors require the most skill, they also provide the closest shave available. The best straight razor blades are very sharp and include a handle that allows the blade to fold into it for safety and storage purposes. Additionally you'll want to either choose a razor that comes with a sharpener or invest in one on its own. Straight razors can be sharpened with leather or a sharpening stone and will need to be sharpened over time. The Art of Shaving has become the best-selling men’s brand at high-end department stores.
