Home organization does not need to be a difficult task. There is, in fact, very little that you need to know to successfully organize your home. And if there are only two things that you remember about organizing your home, these are the ones you need to know. You probably have too much stuff. Much of home organization is about throwing or giving things away. Getting in touch with the reasons why you are hanging onto what you are hanging onto can be a great first step in getting your home organized. Do you hang onto things because you think you might need them someday? Do you hang onto things because it helps you feel like you have some control in your life? There is likely a psychological reason behind why you have all of the unnecessary stuff you have in your life. And “I am just too busy to deal with it” is an excuse you give yourself so that you do not have to deal with your stuff. You have time to deal with it. You choose not to. Get honest with yourself and get rid of the things you do not use or need. Figure out what home organization tools you need before you buy anything. Do you need the fancy garage organization system with 40 cabinets, pull out shelving, specialized toolbox and gold metal trim? No you do not. Do you want it? Probably but you do not need it. Keep in mind that the whole reason you need to organize your home is because you bought too much stuff. You do not need to buy more stuff to fix it. There is very little that you truly need in the way of tools to organize your home. Make a careful, thoughtful list of what you need before you buy anything. At the end of the day, home organization is much more a psychological issue than anything else. Figure out what is running you so that you can change it.
