How to Sell Your News to Reporters

You should apply the procedures of PR Rainmaking, which is the exercise of using the news media to attract customers and clients to your initiative. Any operative campaign of PR Rainmaking is grounded in three essential ideas: a) The reporter is the consumer. b) The story is the invention that must be personalized for and sold to that purchaser. c) Reporters will buy your story for their causes, not yours. Today's PR authorities often did remember this basic standard. The bad ones - the ones that reporters mockery as mere "flacks" - never learn it. In some of these societies, the reader or the spectator is their main consumer. Others consider their client or their CEO to be the consumer of their work. The PR Rainmaker knows: When it comes to receiving your story in the news media, you must look upon the reporter as your purchaser. Without the reporter, nothing happens. There is no story for your target audience to view or to read. There is nothing for your CEO to show his managements. There is nothing for your auction team to hand out to forecasts. It is not adequate that you want to sell news. Innumerable initiatives have lost money trying to sell news they wanted to sell and no one wanted to buy. No matter what you create, you must find a market that wants to acquire your news. The same holds true when placing your story in the news media. The PR Rainmaker knows that the story is the product. The story must be personalized for the consumer, who is the reporter. Then it must be retailed to that reporter. This is where PR flacks lose their direction. They look upon media associations as physique manufacture. They want to build an assemblage line. They want to eccentric out one media release after another, send out a discharge facsimile, and read their story in the newspapers the next day. By using these "spray and pray" procedures, a company may well engender news media attention. But that Exposure is likely to be unproductive. The key messages will be biased. The story will go to the wrong spectators. The company will receive no return on its venture other than some newspaper accompaniments and perhaps some container. The PR Rainmaker knows: The best news stories are received one by one. Reporters will buy for their motives, not ours. Keep telling yourself this and you will have a much better fortuitous of holding your anger, preserving your stability and insertion more layers in the news media. I prefer to think journalism is a meritocracy and demanding work schedules fantastic national news agency because of my skills and hard work, but as it is in life, and not too whimsical. Those who have a job that you love and get paid for it we should be grateful to strive for further development and to pay forward as our ancestors
