Designing is among the most creative field either it is for print media or for web. But there is significant difference between the graphic designing for Print media and Web. And for having better understanding of these differences, both can be compared in different areas which includes the type of media, the audience, layout, color combination and technology. Type of Media:Since both Print and web designing have some distinguished features, so it becomes important to have full account of information on the type of media and the kind of work opportunities you may get in the designing field. As a print designing you get the opportunity to work for magazines, newspaper advertisement, product designing and packaging which includes designing for paper packaging and designing for printing on Aluminum, Business cards, logos, pamphlet and stationery. While being a web designer, you may work on standard HTML website, flash website, e-newsletter, Banners etc. The basic difference between print and web designing is that in printing designing you end up with final product in hand and in web designing you end up with final display on computer desktop. Audience:To hold the attention for the maximum time is the most challenging and difficult job for both print and web media. In print, the challenge is to hold audience attention on a page long enough so the intended message has the some impact on the audience and this should be achieved with in a limited space for example half page and full page magazine advertising.. In print designing since one has to deal with physical product, so physical property of the product such as shape, texture and size can help designer to achieve its goal. While in web designing the uphill task is to keep your audience on a specific website for the maximum possible time limit. Since website is multi pages, designers have added advantage over print media that it can entice its audience as long as possible. Layout:Well the objective of both print and web designing is same that is to achieve an effective layout. However the only difference is availability of space. In print designing your space is generally measured in inches and has opportunity to work on anything ranging from business card to billboard. Amid this the major challenge for the print designer is that space allowed from start to the end will be the same in visibility. On the other hand in the web designing, the space available is generally measured in pixels. Here the major challenge is that you have to design your site in such a way that it looks best on any resolution at any monitor despite its size. Color:This is the most important aspect of designing for both print and web designing. A designer must have knowledge of color models such as RBG, CMYK and HSV. The major concern in print design is the color reflection on both screen and paper. Before having final print, designer must consider the difference between the color on screen and on paper. In web designing, however the major concern is that color may differ from monitor to monitor and how it will affected by the brightness and contrast changes. Technology:Having a good knowledge of technology is essential for both print and web design. Knowledge of adobe Photoshop, illustrator and In design is essential for both. For print designer knowledge of latest advancement in printing technology is essential to bring out the best outcome similar a web design must also be aware of the limitation of his programmer.
