The folks who refined the art of refining have taken adjustability to a new level with the TaylorMade R1 driver. The newest line in the R family features seven standard and five upright loft options, seven face angle options and movable weight plugs to create the desired ball flight. With all the loft, lie angle and face angle options in the TaylorMade R1 driver, there is a fit for nearly every golfer. The rub, of course, is whether the golfer can make consistent contact between clubface and ball - and whether each golfer who buys one understands the effects on ball flight well enough to properly tune the driver. The TaylorMade R1 driver performs as advertised, which is to say: better than the Taylormade R11S driver price. Higher ball speed off the face means more carry yards. Not many more, but more. About 1-3 more carry yards in our testing, but notably with much lower spin, which means golfers see more roll-out for more overall distance. They are quick to add, however, that adjustability is only part of the R11S story. The head of this driver, which comes with a flat-white crown and a black PVD face, is slightly bigger than the original and wildly popular Taylormade R11 driver price, company officials say, and more aerodynamically designed so it can promote greater clubhead speed, which is credited with creating greater distance off of tee shots. The R11S measures 45.75 inches in length and comes with an Aldila RIP Phenom 60 shaft stock. Lofts of 9, 10.5 and 12 degrees are available for right-handers, while a version of the 10.5-degree is offered to lefties. It boasts a contemporary, slightly more triangular appearance and is designed to provide for higher moment of inertia (MOI) for better forgiveness. “The golf clubs price R11S is the realization of every ounce of innovation, adjustability and performance we could package in a bigger, more aerodynamic clubhead,” says Sean Toulon, executive vice president at TaylorMade. “And with the proper fitting, we know golfers of all skill levels will be longer and straighter off the tee.” The driver is still extremely high performing as evidence of my drives consistently being farther down the fairway. I would recommend the R1 driver to other golfers but likely those who want the flexibility to adjust the club as much as this club allows.
