I bought the TaylorMade R11 irons and loved them. They are easy to hit and very forgiving. They definitely helped improve my game. The R11 irons are inspired by the R11 driver series and have integrated some of the design features of the driver into the irons. Although there is no white, there are some familiar TaylorMade trademarks in the iron head design and markings. Along with those design features TaylorMade also adds a good deal of technology into the clubs to make their performance meet the demands of many types of golfers. The sole is a two-tone design with the main part being a frosted matte metallic color and the rest a shiny metallic color. The iron face is a traditional face without any features to mention. The topline of the clubhead is traditional in size for a game improvement iron and might appear a bit thick to the traditionalist. I traditionally play very thin muscle-back designs but I did not find the R11 iron topline to be overly thick. It is very hard these days to play in a foursome that does not have a golfer with the TaylorMade R11s Driver, R11, or RocketBallz driver. They look like clubs that professionals would be tempted to play, but they also incorporate loads of technology to help "average" golfers improve their play. In short, they're engineered to help us hit the ball longer, higher and straighter. The thin, light, lively face of these irons is designed to provide a high Coefficient of Restitution, which promotes faster ball velocities and more distance from the long- and mid-irons. TaylorMade's "Inverted Cone Technology" also promotes faster ball velocities and more distance, especially on mishits. This particular technology, which enlarges the sweet spot and makes TaylorMade R11 Irons more forgiving, is also used in the company's popular TaylorMade Burner irons. They felt solid during my swings, and impact felt and sounded soft, smooth and silky. Their distance was impressive. The progressive-width soles of the irons are beveled at the back in a way that reminds me of the Callaway RAZR X irons. This sole design increases playability from different types of lies because the clubs perform as though they have narrower soles. The ball lands on the green with plenty of spin, I found them to spin even more than my current irons. The longer irons also have a noticeably thin face and give the club a tingy feel that you can sometimes get with fairway woods. I believe this is due to the ultra thin face but the performance of the iron, in terms ball flight, was not in anyway reduced. The long irons in this set are truly a pleasure to hit, they really put my muscle-back irons to shame. To sum up, the R11 irons have lived up to my expectation. These irons are the best I have ever owned. The playerability and accuracy it delivers is unbelievable. The ball seems to explode off the face of the club with little effort.
