As a young man goes through puberty, his testosterone levels rise rapidly. This change in hormonal balance is responsible for the deepening of his voice, growing body hair, increasing muscles mass, and budding sexuality. The increase tapers off throughout his 20’s, and generally plateaus by the end of his 30’s. This process is seen as completely normal and nothing to worry about. However, after age 40 most men experience a drop in their testosterone levels. This can lead to loss of hair, decreasing muscle mass, easier fatigue, and loss of sexual desire (or libido). While this process is still completely normal, millions of men flock to their doctors to see what can be done to stop these feelings and restore their youth. They often begin a testosterone therapy treatment. Testosterone Therapy Testosterone therapy, done by taking testosterone supplements, is nothing new. What is new, however, is how the drug is administered, and how popular it has become. Since the early 1970’s men with no T, or low T, levels have sought out testosterone supplements. These men would have to visit their doctor every 2 to 4 weeks in order to have another injection. The process was cumbersome and painful. Since around the year 2000, however, the treatment has changed. Millions of men now administer their own treatment at home by applying a gel at the beginning of the day, or by affixing a patch before bed. This ease of treatment, along with aggressive marketing from the drug companies, has caused the drugs to become immensely popular. Serious Side Effects Testosterone supplements, however, have some very serious side effects. For instance, one study that was published in 2010 found that men who took testosterone supplements were five times more likely to develop heart disease than those who did not take the drug. This side effect, along with an increased risk of stroke, blood clots, or even death, has caused millions of men undue harm. It has also spurred thousands to find a testosterone lawyer in hopes of collecting compensation to cover medical costs and other damages. Contact an Attorney If you have suffered a severe side effect after using testosterone supplements, you should contact a personal injury lawyer right away. You may have a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the drug. If you have been thinking about using testosterone supplements, you may be better of changing your diet and finding natural testosterone therapy treatments to avoid these potential risks.
