Getting Ready for a Yard Sale

Sales
Yard sale, also known as garage or rummage sale, is a great way to get rid of the old and useless (for you!) stuff in the attic or in the basement, and to get some extra cash for it. But organizing a yard sale is not as easy as it seems on movie, though, it is not that difficult either - you just need proper preparation and a plan. This article will try to help you and show you what are the most important things that you need to consider before getting rid of your junk.

Organization:

If this is your first yard sale - don't worry, it's not rocket science. You simply have to prepare beforehand and organize everything, otherwise you might end up having a very stressful and chaotic afternoon, when 'D' day comes.

1. First of all - plan in advance. If you have finally decided to have a yard sale, great, but don't rush and make it next week. In stead, give yourself at least 2 weeks, or up to a month to prepare properly. And under preparation I mean everything from cleaning and organizing the attic and/or basement to advertising your event, because yard sales are not only meant for your neighbors, but you should also try and attract other people. In fact there are people who search the web in attempt to find yard sales, because if the old painting you are selling means nothing to you for someone it might be a real antique.

2. Go through the stuff you are planning to sell and see if some of the things aren't badly damaged. I mean, you can still place them if you want, but I doubt there will be many people willing to pay for a broken toaster for example. So if you think some of the items are not in good condition just throw them away (don't forget to recycle!). And while you are in the attic or in the basement why don't you clean as you go? End of lease cleaning experts in Melbourne believe that this will help you sort out your belongings faster and you will have your attic or basement cleaned too, so you won't have to go back and clean it next week, for example. In other words, kill two birds with one stone.

3. Get some help! It is always a good idea to have someone, either a friend or a family member to help you. One or two of you could be organizing and labeling the items that you are planning to sale, while one or two others might be going around the neighborhood placing adverts about the upcoming sale. In this way you won't be overwhelmed with work. And while we are on it - advertising should be done both on- and off-line. Online adverts include posting in some specially designed for such occasions web-sites, the social media and the online version of your newspaper for example. On the other hand, offline advertising includes sticking posters around your neighborhood or placing an advert in the newspaper.

4. Price the items. Okay, this is the tricky part. We all want to get as much money as we can for out stuff, but let's be realistic - you can't price your old and stained sofa at $400, I mean you can, but the likely hood of someone buying it is small. Most people who come to yard sales are looking for bargain deals, so, sure don't go cheap, but at the same time don't forget that you are not part of the Westfield Group.

When the big day comes, put some tables outside where you can line your belongings, play some background music, put your best smile on your face and let the yard sale begin!
