Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note: Direct Comparison

Science & Technology
Comparing both the smartphones, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note will reveal a lot of things about the devices and their specs. Pricing of both the devices are high and the devices provide good features that are demanded by business or enthusiasts to serve their requirements well.

Read the direct comparison made between Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note which hold some fundamental differences worth knowing.

Design

When it comes to design, both the devices get good attention due to their decent and sleek appearance. The only change that can be found easily by all is that Galaxy Note has received broader appearance and S3 has received thinner and magnifying look. Both come with multitouch powerful display and a physical button at the bottom of the screen. Both are slim and light and get distinct cover at the back. Cameras are positioned at the top center of the back and are supported by autoflash that improve the image quality especially in darker condition. Galaxy Note has rugged back cover that prevents from slipping off of the hand.

On the other hand, Galaxy S3 gets metallic-like finish and is still comfortable to handle. Owners get a choice as in they want to buy bigger and broader handset or smaller handset than Note. Look-wise both have superb design, but Galaxy S3 that launched sometimes back gets much better and amazing design that has been massively enhanced by the two superb color choices – Pebble Blue and Marble White. On the other hand, Galaxy Note comes with three color choices – Black, White and Pink. The dimensions of Samsung Galaxy Note measures 146.9mm by 83mm by 9.7mm; whereas, Samsung Galaxy S3 measures 136.6mm by 70.6mm by 8.6mm.

When it comes to their weight, Note is 178 gram, which means it is quite hefty than S3 which is 133 gram. Display Both the handsets sport big screen which doubles the user experience. Where Note gets 5.3 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen (1280 by 800 pixels resolution) with 16M colors; S3 gets smaller than that 4.8 inches of Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen (1280 by 720 pixels of resolution) with 16M colors. Both the displays are equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection with multitouch functionality. Bote feature TouchWiz user-interface. S3 on the other hand gets Touch-sensitive controls. Note had received much more attention in the market due to its bigger screen size that confused people to think whether it is a tablet or a smartphone. The resolution given on both the handsets is comparable to an HD Ready TV.

Processor

Galaxy Note was launched in October 2011 and was hyped as one of the most powerful phones available on the market. It features a 1.4 GHz dual-core Exynos processor. Later in 2012 (almost 9 months later), Samsung launched its super-cool handset Galaxy S3 that received same Cortex A9 based processor with 1.4 GHz quad core CPU. Both the devices deploy Mali-400MP GPU, but Galaxy S3 is expected to get some more scores than its older sibling.

Camera

Both the devices carry eight megapixel cameras that can capably record Full HD video of 1080 pixels. Also they share similar front facing cameras with Full HD capability, giving easy access to video chat. Apart from standard geotagging, smile and face detection and touch focus, Galaxy S3 also retained HD video recording and clicking images simultaneously. So, S3 gets more advanced features than Note.

Connectivity

Galaxy S3 is again advanced than Note in this matter where it shares all common features such as microUSB ports, Wi-Fi, DLNA, GPS with A-GPS support, GLONASS. However, S3 gets something more than Note which are NFC, Wi-FI Direct and Bluetooth 4.0. Data transfer features are all same in both the devices. Software Galaxy Note is the predecessor and so it was sold with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system. It is just the 2012 when 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS was hyped and introduced. So, S3 is lucky enough to get this latest Android variant.

Memory/Storage

Both these high end handsets are termed as superphones as they come with 1 GB RAM which is simply amazing and provides great multitasking opportunity. The Note comes in two version – 16 GB and 32 GB; whereas, S3 comes with both and also adds a 64 GB version on its list. Apart from such great memory options, both the devices feature microSD slots that enable the users to use additional up to 64 GB memory card. This means, users will never go out of space ever in their life. If this is not enough then users will be more thrilled to explore that S3 is capable of storing further with the help of a 2-year license for 50 GB Dropbox cloud storage. This feature is missing in its predecessor Note.

Other features

S3 only gives microSIM card option for the convenience of the users. However, Note comes with S Pen Stylus that enables the users to draw graphs, edit or design anything and directly share with others. Due to this unique feature, Samsung Galaxy Note had received a lot of attention as a tablet cum smartphone. Users can enjoy playing games and other Java MIDP emulator applications on both the phones, except that the S3 provides more options due to 3D games which can also be downloadable.

Battery

Note gets larger battery size due to its powerful capability of 2500 mAh battery type. S3 gets smaller battery compatibility than Note with 2100 mAh battery. One reason is that Note offers much greater 3G talktime opportunity where it provides 810 minutes or 13.5 hours of backup altogether. S3 in this case provides 620 minutes of battery backup in 3G.

Pricing

Samsung Galaxy Note price is as low as Rs. 31,700 and Samsung Galaxy S3 price is set as low as Rs. 37, 990. Well, the price of S3 is fair enough as it provides all advanced features including latest Android 4.0 ICS OS as compared to Galaxy Note that still runs 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS.

Samsung Galaxy Note is the older sibling of Samsung Galaxy S3 which comes with a lot of advanced features. So, it is reasonable to say that Related Articles - Samsung galaxy note price, Samsung galaxy S3,
