Transmission organs have the function of transmitting power in a mechanical system. Some of these such as shafts, couplings or clutches, transmit movement while maintaining a constant number of revolutions, due to the presence of coaxial shafts. However others power trasmission components may vary this ratio, in a constant or jerky manner: it is the case of chains, belts, sprockets. The choice of the most suitable ratio is certainly given by the type of application, and varies according to numerous factors, including: dimensions, wheelbase, transmitted power, cost, speed of operation, the motor's features, the user's needs. For example, the friction wheels are suitable when there is need to transmit a few kilowatts of power between shafts parallel and close together; instead sprockets can transmit large or small powers between trees twisted, parallel or accidents places between them to a mid or short distance.
