The 2012 NCAA Bracket is a voluntary organization which encompasses 1281 institutions and organizations. Its main responsibility is the organizing of all the athletic programs in most colleges and universities in USA and Canada. The head quarters of this organization are in Indianapolis, Indiana. The NCAA is divided into three leagues, the division 1, division 2 and division three. This was decided on in a 1973 convention. All the largest colleges and universities hosted by the association are grouped together in the 1st division whilst all the other smaller institutions are held in these remaining second and third divisions. The schools in the 1st and second divisions all have scholarship choices for the athletes who are good in various sports that they play. This is however not the case in third division schools. The association facilitates a wide range of sports in the over two thousand institutions that are registered members there. The main two sports are basketball and football. All the colleges and universities that offer football as a sport are categorized in 3 groups, namely divisions 1, two and 3. The 1st division was then additional sub divided in 1978 into the I A, I AA and I AAA categories. The I AAA was done away with soon afterwards. Prior to the inclusion of ladies in all sports hosted by the association, women had their personal organization which represented their interests and facilitated all female college sporting events. This organization was the AIAW, the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women. In 1982 however, this female sporting association was dissolved and its responsibilities were largely absorbed by the NCAA. There are rules and procedures that should be followed before an athlete in a college can enroll in any of the divisions in college sports. If the athlete wishes to play in his or her freshman year, he or she has to have completed and graduated from high school and they should have completed the minimum required courses. Moreover, they ought to have a high GPA score in all 16 courses. As of 2011, each and every student seeking to play in the league was to submit a signed letter of intent that was to express his interest in playing. This was to be done after the 1st week of February for all those wishing to submit their letters. Also in 2011, the organization raised the academic specifications for all athletes who had been to play in post season games.
