Djokovic tied the contest by winning the fourth set 6-3, and many expected his momentum to carry him through the decider, but this was Andy Murray’s day. He broke the Djokovic serve twice early on in the set to take a 3-0 lead, and now the finish line was tantalisingly within reach, but Djokovic broke straight back to keep the contest on a knife edge. Murray would need all of his concentration and resilience to see out the contest, and that is just what he did, breaking serve again and then serving out for the championship and writing himself into the history books. After the heartbreak of his Wimbledon final defeat, Andy Murray has truly shown what he is made of securing Gold for Team GB at the Olympic Games in London before winning his first Grand Slam at the next time of asking.
