It’s not exclusive to Athletes, or even to the feet. So why is called Athletes foot? It is an extremely common skin infection of the foot and is a fungal infection. Generally it is condition among sports people because it develops in the warm, sweaty places between toes that are regularly cooped up in trainers for hours on end. With so many sports enthusiasts wearing trainers regularly this common skin disease is wide spread than ever. But the condition does not thrive only among athletes. In fact any one can suffer from skin diseases. It is not dangerous but it can be very itchy and persistent and if left untreated spread to other parts of the foot. Symptoms of the skin disease The skin disease starts between your fourth and fifth finger. It can spread to other fingers, toenails and even your groin. The skin between your toes itches like crazy. The skin may also crack, flake, bleed and is quite painful especially when it is stretched. Irritating patches of skin between the toes can be noticed. If the infection gets worse, the skin grows soft and infected area becomes inflamed and sensitive to touch. If still kept untreated then the infected area becomes white and skin begins to peel and flake. The condition is so dangerous that it may even spread to the soles of your feet and your skin might become dry and hard. This is called “moccasin”. The Athletes foot takes other form too. With blister usually found on the soles and sides of the feet is very painful known as Inflammatory. Treatment of the skin disease The treatment can be carried out in two parts. Firstly the restrictive treatment that is measures to take to stop the infection to thrive. The measures are 1. It is necessary to keep the infected area clean 2. Use foot wear that allows the feet to breathe easily 3. Cotton socks or socks made up of natural fibers are ideal to prevent any sort of skin disease 4. Use foot powder such as miconazole to keep the feet dry 5. Soak and clean your feet in a solution of vinegar and water. This removes the dry skin and reduces swelling. The second part involves professional treatment. Visit a doctor and seek his advice. There are many anti fungal infection available but all do not remove the fungal directly. Most inhibit their development which results in them dying naturally. This entire process is known as fungi static treatment. It is always advisable to complete the entire course of 2-4 weeks daily application or the fungal may thrive once again. Just because the symptoms have gone does not mean that you are cured. Unfortunately this type of skin disease tend to thrive repeatedly and the trains of the infection they suffer from get increasingly resistant to the treatment available but a proper treatment could rid every one permanently from this skin condition . So Sports people or people like police, mine workers soldiers and construction workers are vulnerable to this sever skin condition. It is always advisable to allow you feet to break during your break from the task. The most important thing is to practice cleanliness in all that you do and you are one step ahead in stopping the spread of fungus and bacteria.
