Bahrain is an island which was formerly an emirate near the western coast of the Persian Gulf. The most interesting feature would be the vaulted roof which is akin to a “clam shell’ and which rests upon complex steel bindings straddling over 50 metres. This recently completed library has already become another site which invokes the national pride of the island’s Islamic community, and includes superior conference facilities, a multipurpose theatre, museum space and many other attractive features. The Al Fateh Mosque and the Shaikh Isa National Library are Bahrain’s architectural masterpieces to the world and stand as fantastic displays of Islamic culture and artistic sensitivity.
