Located on an islet in the middle of the Chao Phraya River, this century-old pagoda was built by King Buddha Loetla Nabhalai in 1827. Also known as Phra Samut Chedi, it is the site of an annual festival celebrating the changing of the cloth that wraps the chedi or reliquary. Considered one of the best times to go on holiday in Rayong, this festival includes activities such as boat racing and the release of countless floating lanterns down the river. Lotus Crystal Factory
Established in 1993, this is the first glass and crystal factory in the province, open to visitors who want to see how such items are produced. It currently employs at least 100 people, churning out up to 50,000 glass pieces a month, all made from Rayong's high-quality sand. Travelers can also buy these pieces at Lotus Crystal's showroom, or take a quick break at the park or the restaurant before going back to their hotel in Thailand. Wat Pa Pradu
One of the most famous temples in Rayong, Wat Pa Pradu was built during the Ayutthaya period, which lasted from 1350 to 1767. It is known for housing a gigantic reclining Buddha, measuring more than 11 m wide and over 3 m high. It's not only the size that makes this statue famous; it is also the fact that this Buddha reclines on its left side, rather than the standard right side. Found inside the Eastern Marine Fisheries Research and Development Center, this aquarium features a wide range of marine life, including giant clams and leatherback turtles. Part of the aquarium is shaped like a tunnel, while a fossil museum is also located inside the complex. And for a bit of ironic twist, seafood products are sold just outside the building. The Shrine of King Taksin the Great
It was built in 1947 to commemorate the brief stopover of King Taksin in the area before leading his troops to drive out the Burmese from the Kingdom of Ayutthaya in the 18th century. At the site, an impressive statue of King Taksin himself stands, plus a 300-year-old Parkia tree in front of it, where the king was said to have let his elephant rest. As you can see, there are various tourist attractions outside your beachfront hotel in Rayong. Make sure to visit them during a trip to the area.
