What To Expect From Your Visit To Teotihuacan Mexico

Travel & Tourism
If you are taking a trip to Mexico City or the surrounding area, then you owe it to yourself to visit Teotihuacan. While there are some Aztec ruins in the city such as Templo Mayor and Tlatelolco, they are simply too small to compare to the sheer magnitude of one of the most visited archaeological sites in the world.

How To Get There The easiest way to get to Teotihuacan from Mexico City is to go to the Terminal de Autobuses del Norte which is on the yellow line of the metro. When you go into the bus terminal you will need to go all the way to the left. At the end you will find the trips to Teotihuacan. You can also catch the bus from the Indios Verdes station on the green line number 3, but on the weekends there is a chance that you will have to wait for a bus with a seat. The ride takes close to an hour and the bus will leave you right at the entrance.

What To Bring There are a few things that you may want to think of bringing on your trip. Of course you should always bring your camera, a large memory card or lots of film for the pictures you will be taking and very comfortable shoes. It is important to have athletic comfortable shoes because this is a very large site and you will be doing a lot of walking. While we are talking about the walk, you should also make sure that you bring plenty of water because it is very easy to get dehydrated. It would also make sense to bring some fruit or a sandwich to eat while you are there. It will take a few hours to visit the entire site so you will likely get hungry. There are restaurants by the second entrance and vending machines by both entrances if you did not bring those things with you.

The Highlights The Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon are by far the biggest attractions in Teotihuacan (both in size and beauty), but you should also make sure that you visit the museum and the smaller structures. At the moment it is still permitted to climb the pyramids, but if you have a fear of heights keep in mind that the incline is pretty steep. During our first visit a lot of people chose to just come down by sitting on each step. Though it may seem a bit funny, the views that you get from the top of the Pyramid of the sun and the middle of the Pyramid of the moon are simply breath taking. This is the one site that you need to really overcome your fears from. Make sure that you also visit the museum to the right for more information about this site.

To Get Back You will need to head to entrance number two. Once you exit you can cross the road and wait for the bus there. There usually is a crowd waiting to get back to the city. When you leave the site by that entrance you can also hear to a few of the restaurants just by the exit. You can have good traditional Mexican food for a very good price. The restaurant to the right has its own bathroom, the one on the left does not, but bathrooms are available by the exits of the site anyway.
