Egypt is a fabulous country and is one of the most visited holiday destinations in the world. You may explore the whole of the world, but if you haven’t visited Egypt, then you cannot call yourself a true backpacker. The beauty of the pyramids and other historical buildings of this country are simply intriguing. There is a sense of getting goose bumps when you stand before the might of Giza’s Great Pyramid or when you try to look for the nose of the Great Sphinx! However, though traveling to this country is easy and cost-effective, you need to conduct yourself in accordance with the local Egypt culture. So if you are used to canoodling in public, then you will have to quit your habit (at least till the time you are in this country). The people of Egypt are religious-minded and do not like to indulge in PDAs. They also do not like to see others doing the same. So, if you kiss your partner in public, then it would be hurtful to the local sentiments and would be in contradiction to the general sentimentality. If you are a woman, you will also have to be prepared for some stares especially by males. The best way to tackle such a discomfort is to clad yourself completely. While the Egypt culture bars you from wearing micro skirts, you should also try refraining from wearing normal skirts, unless they reach well below the knee. Also, make sure that you are not wearing sleeveless tops. Though, wearing a sleeveless top won’t be an issue when it comes to morals (unless it is indecent in some way), you may be subjected to embarrassing stares if you show too much of a skin. When you are moving about with your partner, behave as if you would behave before your in-laws or before your kids. Act like husband and wife (or like boyfriend and girlfriend) but do not engage in any public display of affection. There would be no need to clutch each other’s hands as that may be frowned upon. Kissing is strictly no no! Egypt culture is tailored in a way that the women are respected and the traditions do not permit them to show skin. At the same time, the culture and religion go hand in hand. Even while entering any religious attraction or places like The Citadel, you will be asked to cover yourself properly. In case you are indecently attired, then entry may be barred. There is a general custom that people greet you cordially and even the porter or any other assistant would expect you to offer him tip. Tipping can become a headache-causing issue at times, since you feel the pressure to offer tips at almost every aspect of your travel. Tipping is not mandatory, but it is better to offer a small tip for services you hire.
