This year, Labor Day falls on September 2, and it will be here before you know it.If you decide to participate in one of the one-day Grand Canyon rafting trips, the time to book it is now. Holidays Are Busy Since Labor Day is on Monday, a lot of people have a three-day weekend for an exciting Grand Canyon getaway. Whether you have a three-day weekend or not, remember Labor Day is one of the busiest times to visit the National Park. I'm strongly urging folks to book their Labor Day float trips at least a week before the weekend begins. If you are lucky, you might still be able to get a seat 72 hours ahead of time, but it is a big risk to wait. Labor Day weekends are always incredibly busy at the Park, but you can still find deals and discounts on rafting tours. In fact, you can probably save about 20% off the price when you book your seats online. Buy Your Seats From The Tour Company What is the secret? Well, I never use any of the big travel broker sites to book my tours. Go straight to the tour operator's website instead. The tour company is the one responsible for operating the tours and setting the prices. They're in the best position to discount tickets and offer special rates, not a travel broker middleman. Grand Canyon Raft Trips Since the tours take all day, be prepared to depart about 7 a.m. You can choose your departure point, Las Vegas, Nevada or Tusayan, Arizona, which is a small town outside the main gates at the South Rim. If you leave from Tusayan, you have a couple of tours to choose from. The standard version takes you by bus to the base of Glen Canyon Dam, where you'll board a 19-passenger motorized pontoon raft for a 15-mile float down the Colorado River. The pontoon ride comes to an end when you reach Lee's Ferry. If you opt for the deluxe Tusayan float trip, you will start with a short plane ride to Page, Arizona. There you will hop on a Jeep and take a riding tour of the Slot Canyons in Antelope Canyon. Then you drive to Glen Canyon Dam and proceed with an itinerary just like the standard float trip. No matter which version you choose, you will ride back to Tusayan in a motor coach. Vegas one-day float trips begin with an exciting chopper flight to the canyon bottom at the West Rim. Then you are given a half an hour to explore the region by foot. After that, you get on board a bus and ride over to Hoover Dam, once there, you get on a raft and float about eleven miles down the river until you get to Willow Beach. Smooth-Water Rafting These raft tours do not go on parts of the river with whitewater, the waters are so smooth that the trips are suitable for kids as young as four and senior citizens too. That makes them great activities for the entire family. It's no wonder they're so popular for holiday weekends. All-Inclusive Trips You don't have to worry about unexpected fees since everything is included such as Park fees, lunch, tour guide, rafting gear, and taxes. I suggest wearing a long-sleeved shirt, shorts, sunglasses, a hat and running shoes or river sandals. You will probably get wet, so wear something that won't be ruined. Pack some extra water and plenty of sunscreen. It's not a bad idea to bring along extra clothes so you can change into something dry at the end of your tour. Going to the Grand Canyon and taking a raft tour is the perfect Labor Day getaway. You will make great memories and have a lot of fun! ---------------------------- Tips From the Author Travel author J.
