For a major share of the economy in India, the present day role of Indian industry cannot be but ignored. Even though the country has been known as an agrarian community since ages, industry output has been a major driver of the financial growth of the country. Industrial growth has remained a power for all the developed nations in the world. There are examples of many nations in Europe and America, which have thrived mainly on industrialisation. Be it the automobile sector, which is a highly specialised unit or the iron and steel industry, which is a raw sector, the industries drive the economy in a major way. People are not only able to get finished products and raw materials for various activities, but there is a major employment generation in society. Even the export portfolio of a country depends on the growth of industries. • Post independence growth in remarkable form India has seen an impetus in list of Indian industries, mostly after the period of independence. Leaders of the post-independent era envisioned such a growth and brought up various public sector industries in the fields of mining, iron and steel, electrical generation, automobiles, engines, construction and even communication sector. The list of Indian industries has kept on elongating since the time of independence, with more and more private sector undertakings being added year after year. Many of these undertakings were in later years merged with the government and became public sector undertakings. Even in the field of atomic and nuclear energy, India industry has made a mark with ISRO and BARC leading from the front. Presently, the frontline industries in India are giving outputs which satisfy the requirements of various other industries and small and medium scale enterprises. Agriculture sector is also getting a boost due to industrialisation as there are better equipments and machineries to boost the production. • Indian industries chart strode from strength to strength Modern day technology is found in most of the Indian industries and this has given a global shape to the country’s industries. Not only are various products being exported to some foreign countries, their produce is exceeding that of well established countries. Majority of the Indian industries started with the era of Mughals and British rule. But the real stamp of superiority was after independence. Tea industry is supposedly one of the earliest ones to have made a mark in India. Thereafter, railways and manufacturing were added to the list of Indian industries. Gradually, the environmental list of industries also grew in proportion as the industries started getting environmental clearance. More efforts were given towards meeting safety requirements for the industries and pollution control measures were introduced. • Indian on world map due to growth of fresh Industrial excellence: As the India industries started to progress and could place the country at par with the developed nations of the world, there was organisation at different levels. Retail industry started coming up, with many Indian companies foraying into this sector. Indian film industry also got recognised. Hospitality sector is also placed nowadays under industry category. Various sectors started emerging in India, getting industry status, which were seen in foreign countries as established industries. This brought India into the world map and has already made it a major force in the world. It wouldn’t be wrong to put the credit on the Indian industries to have taken long strides in strengthening the economy and allowing the people to be proud of their nation.
