3 Reasons to go Skiing in Tignes

Travel & Tourism

If you’re looking for a fabulous, all-round resort in which to book your next ski holiday, look no further than fabulous Tignes, in the French Alps. The name encompasses a group of five high-altitude villages situated near the border of Italy and, as part of the Espace-Killy region, this fabulous resort puts you slap bang in the middle of one of the largest ski areas in the Alps.

Together with its neighbour, Val d’Isere, how does 300 kms of slopes between the altitudes of 1,550m and 3,450m sound? What if we add to that some of the most breathtaking scenery in Europe and great chalet accommodation? We thought so: sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?

Here are just three good reasons we think will sway you toward making your next winter holiday skiing in Tignes!

Something for Everyone

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve never strapped on a set of skis in your life or you’ve been a powderhound for decades, there’s plenty of opportunities for everyone. The resort gives you doorstep access to beginner and nursery slopes, intermediate runs and thrilling, adrenaline-inducing black runs and off-piste trails. There are over 90 lifts (and funiculars) to access the vast range of slopes, which include:

  • 20 green runs
  • 67 blue runs
  • 41 reds
  • 26 blacks

Add to that two snowparks and all the fun that comes along with them and you’ve got a recipe to satisfy everyone!

Access All Areas

When you go skiing in Tignes you’ll have so much to choose from you almost won’t know where to start. In the immediate area you’ll have access to four basic areas:

  • La Grande Motte Massif
  • Palet/L'Aiguille Percée
  • Tovière
  • Les Brévières

But as well as that, you’ll be able to ski in the neighbouring Val d’Isere resort, where the three main areas to explore are:

  • Le Solaise
  • Bellevarde
  • Le Fornet

In a nutshell, the resort really is a diverse and varied skiers’ paradise. You could come for a week and literally try a different run every day and still not have discovered them all.

Fun On and Off the Piste

While, naturally, the whole idea of going skiing in Tignes is, well, to go skiing in Tignes! But everyone, no matter how dedicated to the powder they are, needs a little downtime to rest those weary muscles and recuperate in anticipation of the next day’s activities. The resort is renowned for its lively après ski scene, with plenty of options in each of the five villages. So whether you’re looking for a quiet evening in front of a roaring fire sipping good wine, or a rip-roaring, table-dancing party night out with a bunch of like-minded international young people (we’re looking at you, Folie Douce), you’ll find something and somewhere to love.

As well as the thriving après ski, there are lots of off-snow activities available, including: ice diving, husky sledding, paragliding, Skidoo, helicopter rides, ice climbing, snow shoeing, bun-j-ride and snow tubing.

As you can see, when you choose to go skiing in Tignes you won’t be short on fun. But it’s also important to be aware of the resort’s other attributes like its stunning views, affordability and excellent chalet accommodation for groups of all sizes. In other words: what are you waiting for?
