How to Spend a Day in Terrific Tignes

Travel & Tourism

If your idea of a dream holiday is getting a group of friends and family together and hitting the slopes, then there is no better place than Tignes. This unique snow-lovers destination is part of the Espace Killy area and is renowned for its quality runs. However, that’s not all this cosmopolitan hub has to offer.

As well as the excellent snowsport facilities on offer, the region is made of five different villages with their own charm and personality. This means that whether you’re into the apres ski, the best restaurants, or are planning a fun family getaway, you’ll find it here. The same goes for accommodation, of which you have plenty of options. From luxury hotels to fully catered ski chalets, Tignes has it all.

With so much to discover, it can be hard to figure out where to start! A few tips on how to spend a day here might be useful if you’ve never visited the resort before.

A Day Itinerary in Tignes

Morning on the Slopes

Although there are plenty of activities to try out besides skiing or snowboarding, you have to make time for the main attraction in this snow-covered region: Val d’Isere. Here you’ll find a whopping 300 km of ski runs suitable for all abilities. So whether you’re a thrill seeker who likes to go off-piste or a complete novice, you’ll be able to have a fun morning here. Plus, if you’re staying in one of the catered ski chalets - Tignes has plenty of these to choose from - you might even be able to ski straight from your front door!

Recharge at Grizzly's Bar

A morning of fun on the slopes is tiring and thirsty work, so why not head over to the legendary Grizzly’s bar to warm up by the fire with a mulled wine or hot chocolate? This is something of an alpine wonderland, with sheepskin rugs, carved wooden furniture and a welcoming, roaring fire. You’ll find this place in the heart of Val Claret so check it out before heading back to your catered ski chalets. Tignes’ checklist is not complete without visiting this classic bar.

Afternoon Activity

If you’ve had enough of skiing by now, there are still plenty of adrenaline-pumping activities to try out before calling it a day. Mountain biking, hiking the Aiguille Percee, and indoor climbing are just a few to mention. If you’re looking to rest and restore those tired ski muscles, you might want to unwind at the spa instead. Alternatively, stretch it out with an afternoon yoga class. The possibilities are endless.

Fondu Supper

Before we end the day, you’ll need a hearty meal to make up for a busy day in the cold. There’s always the option of cooking for yourself or eating in at one of the catered ski chalets. Tignes has plenty of restaurants to choose from as well, so if you don’t feel like cooking, why not treat yourself to the classic fondue supper? La Pignatta offers one of the best fondues in the resort, so if you want to try this traditional meal there’s no better place to go.

As you can see, no matter what kind of trip you’re planning - whether it’s a group getaway or a family holiday in one of the catered ski chalets, Tignes has plenty to offer.
