Most people have questions about daily minimums and one-way pricing. If the trip is only a certain number of hours, then why are they being charged for the airplane to sit around? In addition, why does one-way pricing not have that issue? Let us address the variables that affect pricing of a trip. First and foremost, you pay for a minimum of two hours. Most owners would like trips over a two-hour time period because of the cost of owning an aircraft. The exception to that case is if you are able to locate a one-way. In most instances though, you are paying for that jet to return back to base. There are some great private jet operators that have one-ways going to and from major cities. However, there are some cases where you will pay for a full roundtrip because of either the lack of demand from a certain market at a certain time, or the impromptu nature of your flight. A two-hour minimum also applies when an aircraft stays with you at your destination waiting for your return. An example of this is for travelers heading to the islands for the weekend. In most instances, you incur a two- hour minimum per day. There may be a crew charge as well. If you are flying out on a Thursday from Boca Raton, Florida to the Bahamas, it is a three-hour flight. You will pay to have the plane there on Friday (two hours) and Saturday (two hours). The average cost of a super midsize jet is $4,500 per hour plus two-hour minimums for Friday and Saturday at $4,500 per hour. There is also an international tax that you have to pay. It is an average of $50,000 on a super midsize jet. Can the cost of the trip be less? Yes, but this is the way most trips are calculated, unless there is a one-way available. For private jet flights going from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, you normally pay for a roundtrip so that the aircraft can return to base. A light jet normally charters for $2,200 and you are flying from KLAX to KLAS. The flight time is around 47 minutes and the cost is $4,400 plus tax (FET) for a one-way.
