We know what a parent is and does. We know the meaning of the word Christian. So it is a pretty simple task to define a Christian parent. One of the questions though is how does a Christian parent operate in today's much-changed world? After the Second World War, millions of babies were born as fighting men returned home from the conflict. Going to church then was a family routine often twice every Sunday. But that situation is long gone. Yet there are still many people who go to church regularly, live their life as a Christian and have children. Setting rules within the home is wise and based on firm Christian principles. Kids may outwardly resent rules but inwardly they crave direction and guidance. Teens in particular want leadership from their folks and Christian parents are in the ideal position to set out the rules. Respecting your parents is the first rule. Child experts are everywhere today. They preach their beliefs suggesting that parenting should be this and that. And one prominent point is that many parenting experts believe parents should not impose their beliefs on their own children. Children should be free to make their own choices. Well that is not the way a Christian parent behaves. They believe their faith is what has made them the person they are today and they want their children to share that faith. Christians believe every person is pre-ordained to live their life in the light and love of the knowledge of God. This means the parent has to be on hand to educate, inform and direct. This is the very basis of what it means to be a Christian parent. No matter what are the challenges in today's changing world and no matter the advice from parenting experts, Christian parents know their role and know it has never changed nor will it ever change.
